WELSH BLACK BULL ‘LLECHWEDD TWM 33RD’ TOPS DOLGELLAU SALE AT 9,200GNS

Taking the top price today at the 60th Annual Show and Sale was an August 2014 born bull from Mr William Hefin Evans, Eithinfynydd, Talybont, Gwynedd that sold for 9,200gns.  Llechwedd Twm 33rd, who was unplaced in the show, caught the eye of Mr John Lewis of GM, WO&JJ Lewis, Trefaes Uchaf, Llangwyryfon, Ceredigion. The bull was sired by Trefaes Twm 2nd and out of Llechwedd Mona 39th.

Second top price came from Mr Ken Ellis, Ynysfor, Bryncrug, Gwynedd with the youngest bull on offer today.  This was Ynysfor William 7th, an October 2014 born bull that made 6,100gns selling to WRP Jones & NW Jones, Pant, Bryncrug, Gwynedd.

Mr HW Jones, LLwynsarn, Rhydymain, Gwynedd had 5,300gns for Llwynsarn Cawr 8th, born June 2014, sold to G Evans, Egryn, Eithinfynydd, Talybont.  Next was Caerynwch Macsen, from Mr T W Williams & Co, Caerynwch Farm, Brithdir, Gwynedd, that sold to J A Campbell, Penrice Castle, Reynoldston, West Glamorgan for 4,100gns.  Mr Tecwyn Jones sold his Reserve Champion of the day for 3,900gns to BF Evans ar Mab, Glanrafon, Talybont.  This was Seisog Bedwyr 161st, a June 2014 born bull sired by Seisog Cymro 83rd.

Taking the Champion Bull of the day prize however was Tryfil Sonny Bill from Mr I G Roberts, Tryfil Isaf, Llanerchymedd,  Anglesey.  Sired by Ysguboriau Bleddyn 79th, the May 2014 born bull sold to OR Pugh & Co, Henblas, Llwyngwril for 3,000gns

Mr BW Thomas, Chwaen Goch, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey had 2,300gns for his June 2014 born bull Chwaen Erddyn 157th and he sold to TH Davies, Clegyrddwr, Llanbrynmair.

The bulls were judged today by Mr Dafydd R Jones, Gesail, Bryncrug, Tywyn with the junior judge Master Deio Clwyd Williams, Pentre, Cwmtirmynach, Gwynedd.  Few bulls were unsold with most finding new homes.

Judging the females was Mr Emyr Wyn Jones, Rhiw Waedog, Rhosygwalia, Bala with junior assistant Mr Joseph Parry, Clegyr Mawr, Melin y Wig, Corwen .

The Champion female prize went to Messrs WAJ & SE Jones, Pwllheli for Rhyd Shan, a 2012 born in- calf heifer that was unsold.

Champion Maiden heifer prize went to Mr Emyr Jones, Graig Goch, Nebo, Conwy.  This was for Graig Goch Memi 58th, an October 2013 born heifer sired by Ysguboriau Brenin 75th and out of Graig Goch Memi 47th that sold to Simpson Farms, Woodcroft, The Hills, Hope Valley for 1,750gns.

Top price through the ring however went to WJ & MA Davies, Bryn Glas, Ponterwyd, Ceredigion for Coedllys Miranda 35th that sold for 1,900gns to J Pugh, Ty Talgarth, Nantymoel.  Mr W Davies also sold another heifer for 1,680gns.

Mrs Gwenfair Jones and Sons sold Hafodesgob Gwenan 29th for 1,820gns to S & DJ Williams, Cefn Llech, Pant Dwr.  Mrs Gwenfair Jones sold Hafodesgob Molly 154th for 1,650gns to Simpson Farms.

Reserve Champion Maiden female prize went to Mr William R Pughe Jones for Ysguboriau Dwynwen 150th, a June 2014 born heifer, and she sold to D R Bowen, White House Farm, Molleston for 1,700gns.  

Ynysfor Meg 6th, a June 2015 born heifer from Mr Ken Ellis, sired by Graig Goch Berwyn 75th, sold to WS Layton, Knoakes Court, Ivington, Leominster, Herefordshire for 1,380gns.

Other, young heifers, around the 6/7 months old, sold for up to 750gns.

On the day the trade was selective and for what was offered for sale, the trade was good.

Females were of good quality on the whole, with very few not being sold.

Averages:      Bulls (18 mths & over) – 15 sold – 2,480gns;  (12 – 18 mths) – 5 sold – 4,140gns;   Total bulls – 20 sold – average 2,895gns

Females (2 – 3 yrs) – 3 sold – 1,433gns;  (1-2 yrs) – 8 sold – 1,611gns;  (under 1 yr) – 7sold – 796gns

Total Females - 18 sold – average 1,264gns
